As the penultimate round of the 2017/2018 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, the Perth Motorplex’s MacTrack Westernationals event (March 3 and 4) is attracting racers from all across the country.

For those based in the Eastern states, the journey to Perth is no small task, and so it is no surprise that racers often combine resources for their trips across the Nullarbor. This year, a contingent hailing from Melbourne and Adelaide have taken that idea to the next level, piling no less than five racing machines into the one Zauch Transport truck for the trip to the Westernats.

Alex Panagiotidis

No less than three racers reset national records during the recent South Coast 660, with Chris Soldatos, Alex Panagiotidis and Jim Ioannidis all setting new markers in the Group Two Super Stock Eliminator record books.

The 47-year-old owner of Shelves for Shops in Dandenong (Victoria) has been in love with drag racing since he was a youngster, and always hoped to hold aloft one of the ANDRA’s prestigious trophies.

Matt Czerny and his Mullins Dragster are currently leading the way in the Modified ranks of the 2017/2018 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, which will enjoy its seventh round this weekend at Portland’s South Coast Raceway (January 20/21).

At the South Coast 660 event, Czerny and his crew will be looking for their maiden Modified event win in what is their first season in the bracket, with their spot on the top of the points tally coming by virtue of the consistency they have enjoyed so far.

Tim Stewart (Image by Outlaw Images)

He broke through for his first-ever ANDRA Christmas Tree at Mildura earlier this season, and since then Melbourne-based Supercharged Outlaws racer Tim Stewart hasn’t looked back.

In the last three events he has raced – starting with Mildura – Stewart has been to the finals every time, securing the event win two out of those three times. What makes this even more impressive is the fact that Stewart’s ‘THE STANG’ ‘66 Fast back Funny Car is new for him and his crew this season.

Now, the 56-year-old Director of Fire Fighting Systems is looking ahead to try and make it four from four finals at this weekend’s South Coast 660 at South Coast Raceway (January 20/21) – round seven of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

Now, Soldatos will take over the driving duties while Geddes looks to run his dragster for the remainder of the season.
