The Australian National Drag Racing Association will once again provide sanctioning for the drag racing portion of the annual Red CentreNATS event in 2020.

The Red CentreNATS, one of Australia’s best car culture events, will descend on Alice Springs across this year’s Father’s Day weekend (September 4-6).

“The Northern Territory’s borders are open and Red CentreNATS is on with hundreds of classic and modified cars, bikes and utes headed to Alice Springs on Father’s Day weekend for one of Australia’s best car culture events,” Red CentreNATS Event Organiser, Andy Lopez, said.

The event will see some of the nation’s best street machines join Australia’s leading extreme motorsport enthusiasts to compete in competitions that include not only ANDRA sanctioned drag racing at Alice Springs Inland Dragway but also a Show n Shine, Judging, Burnouts, Motorkana and Grass Driving with multiple awards and prizes up for grabs.

“Get involved as the town comes alive and celebrates the automotive industry at its finest. Road trip with your mates, family or car club to the heart of Australia for the ultimate cruise of a lifetime,” Lopez said.

“With many exciting activities, festivals, and must-see bucket list adventures ahead, jump in the car as all roads lead to Alice on the first week of September.”

Run by Summernats and the Northern Territory Major Events Company and now in its sixth year, RCN also features the unique experience for entrants of driving their highly modified, high powered, high decibel street machine on the actual streets of Alice Springs over four days of the event.

“Special dispensations granted by the NT’s Department of Motor Vehicles allow some very special cars to get their motors running on the roads, roundabouts and even the McDonalds drive thru,” Lopez said.

“Last year’s Saturday night parade through the Alice Springs city centre featured over 500 vehicles snaking their way past what feels like the entire city out standing on the curbs and corners cheering on the visitors.

“After a successful debut in 2019, the Red CentreNATS Heavy Hitters category is also headed back to Alice Springs Inland Dragway with 20 of the fastest rides around ready to fight for $20,000 in prize and tow money and the ultimate bragging rights.

“Spectators get the opportunity to catch a glimpse of some of the quickest cars around racing under moonlight and fireworks in the heart of Australia this Father’s Day weekend at Red CentreNATS 06.  Got a ride in the sixes, sevens, eights and nines and think you’ve got what it takes? Enter your ride today!”

Including Wednesday’s scrutineering welcome event, there will be over five days to get up close and personal with other chrome and horsepower lovers in the desert sun.

“Presented in conjunction with sanctioning body Motorsport Australia and with the support of ANDRA, Red CentreNats also includes opportunities to volunteer as an official within the event competitions and to be a part of the great team delivering an awesome automotive event,” Lopez said.

ANDRA Chief Executive Officer Brett Stevens said ANDRA was pleased to once again be part of the Red CentreNATS.

“This unique and entertaining event is a great part of the Northern Territory’s events calendar and we are looking forward to once again being a part of the action by providing sanctioning services for the drag racing portion of the event at Alice Springs Inland Dragway,” Stevens said.
