The penultimate round of the 2021 Central Queensland Drag Racing Association (CQDRA) Club Championship will be held this Saturday (October 30) at Benaraby Dragway.

As the championship chase approaches its conclusion, a large number of racers are in contention for the title.

One of those racers is Cassie Wellington, who currently leads the way in the Street Eliminator class and is tied at the top of the points ladder for the Club’s overall champion with last year’s champion, Brett Kelly.

If Wellington can take out the title, it will be her first championship win and come in what is only her third year of racing.

“I started racing about 2.5 years ago, and in my rookie season I took out the runner-up spot in the Street category before I stepped into this car, so to go one better this year would be fantastic and a real stand-out moment,” Wellington said.

“We have had solid numbers in the Street Eliminator field this year, and the events always make for a great social weekend too.

“We have some good racers in the category and there is always plenty of friendly banter in the pits and staging lanes.

“This year I have learnt the hard way not to back off in the last race due to count backs for the finals.

“Looking at the points tallies at this stage of the season; I am feeling pretty confident that I can take out the title this year.

“As we look to do all we can to bring it home, I would like to thank my sponsor, Mal’s Mechanical Bundaberg; and also my partner Richard who is always there to lend a hand.

“I would also like to recognise all of the track staff and volunteers for what they do, as without them we wouldn’t be able to do what we love.”
