Willowbank Raceway will this weekend host not one but three events, with a Friday night test ‘n’ tune (Friday 24 April), the latest round of the JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series (Saturday 25 April) and the postponed running of the hotly-anticipated Nostalgia Drags (Sunday 26 April).

This upcoming triple-header follows on from the weekend’s successful running of the annual Queensland Autospectacular, which hosted more than 750 judged and display vehicles to the delight of more than 3,000 auto enthusiasts.

First up will be Friday night’s Test ‘n’ Tune, which allows entrants to bring along their car or bike and take it down the Willowbank Raceway drag strip – entry is just $45.00 to race admitting the entrant and a spectator, passenger rides are $20.00, and spectator access is $20.00 (or $18.00 for students with ID) while children aged 13 and under gain free admission – for full event details, please click here

Next up will be round two of the 2015 JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series. The series celebrates grassroots drag racing at some of South East Queensland’s great tracks, with Saturday afternoon to host qualifying from 1.30pm to 5.00pm and racing from 5.30pm for competitors across the FG Loy & Sons Eighth Mile Outlaws, RD Williams Excavator Parts Modified, Ice Slushee Super Sedan, John William Auto Sales Super Street, Queensland Nameplate Group Modified Bike, Diamond T Products Junior Dragster and Kenda Tires Drag Radial brackets. Spectator tickets are available at the gate for just $20.00 for adults and $18.00 for students with ID, while children aged 13 and under gain free admission.

“After kicking off at Warwick Dragway, the series now heads to Willowbank Raceway on 25 April for its second round and the racing is already heating up,” said Series Promotor John Winterburn.

“Eighth Mile drag racing is fast, intense and demanding of its racers amid a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere, so you can be guaranteed that the action will be entertaining and exciting for race fans this Saturday.”

Following the eighth mile action the entertainment will continue at Willowbank Raceway, with 150 machines of yesteryear entered for this Sunday’s Nostalgia Drags and set to roll into the gates of Queensland’s premier drag racing facility on Sunday.

“When we needed to postpone the Nostalgia Drags in February due to poor weather it was unfortunate, but the silver lining is that it has allowed us the chance to create a great triple-treat weekend for race fans in conjunction with our Friday night Test ‘n’ Tune and the JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series,” said Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson.

“Friday will provide a great opportunity for anyone to take to the track in their pride and joy, before Saturday sees the fast-paced action of eighth mile racing hit the track. Sunday will then see 150 machines of yesteryear entertaining motoring enthusiasts on the quarter-mile, as well as even more happening off-track for our judged show and shine, displays and more.”

On-track Sunday will be competitors across the Top Eliminator, Quick Eliminator, Gas, Hot Rod, Vintage Gas, US Muscle and Aussie Muscle categories, with all the action set to kick off with qualifying from 9.00am and racing from 1.00pm. Spectator tickets are available at the gate for $25 for adults and $20 for students with ID, while children aged 13 and under gain free entry.

A judged Show & Shine will also be part of the festivities, with enthusiasts able to take part at no extra cost to the admission fee in a range of categories including Best Australian Vehicle, Best USA Vehicle, Best Hot Rod, Best Ford, Best GM and Best Mopar, with judging from 11.00am and entry forms available on the day at the Show & Shine area.
