When the Perth Motorplex hosts its season-opening Shannons Insurance PowerPalooza event on Saturday October 31, Oakford brothers Brock and Cooper Moresby will be ready to do battle in the Junior Dragster bracket.

The unique event will provide a perfect opener to the 2020/2021 Perth Motorplex season by featuring a spectacular combination of ‘motortainment’ including drag racing, speedway and burnouts all in the one day in an action-packed five-hour show.

Fourteen-year-old Brock and 11-year-old Cooper will be representing in the Junior Dragster drag racing bracket at the event, which will also host the debut of new liveries for both youngsters.

“I think the PowerPalooza event is awesome and cool; I like that there will be lots of people watching if I win,” Cooper said.

“I am aiming to either win or beat my brother! Racing against my brother is competitive and I like that if I beat him, I get bragging rights! But I don’t like it if I lose and he gets them!” he chuckled.

“It would be great to win obviously and to run my first 7.90 second pass, but it should also be a great event for doing some testing and getting the feel of the car after the off-season, as we have done quite a bit of work on it since the last time we raced,” Brock said.

“Racing against Cooper is great fun. I think it is fantastic how whenever we win a meet, we have bragging rights for a few weeks before the next one. I am not particularly a fan of it whenever he beats me, but he does a good job at it when he does,” he grinned.

“Hopefully one day I can win my first ANDRA Christmas Tree trophy, and long-term I am hoping to be able to hop into dad’s Studebaker when I am a lot older!” Brock added when asked about his plans for his racing career.

Like so many of our sport’s next generation of racing stars, Brock and Cooper are following in the footsteps of their dad, Stuart Moresby.

“I have been watching my dad race pretty much since I was born. He was the one to get me into Juniors, and the first time I heard of them, I knew it would be great fun,” Brock explained.

“After dad and Brock were racing, I thought it would be a cool experience for me as well – I like the bragging rights and how fun it is to race down the track,” Cooper said.

Unsurprisingly, Brock and Cooper’s school friends are impressed by their fast-paced hobby.

“My school friends think that it is cool,” Copper said.

“Most of them find it hard to believe, but the few that I’ve brought to the track have loved the experience and are amazed by it,” Brock added.

As Perth locals, it is no surprise that the brothers are fans of the Motorplex facility.

“The Perth Motorplex is an amazing track – it is one of my favourites out of the few I have been to, and it is a great place to be around with all the support we get,” Brock said.

Talking about support, the boys are keen to thank those who have backed their racing efforts.

“Cooper and I would like to thank West Coast Smash Repairs for their great help, all of the Perth Motorplex track staff for coming out each day, all of the other racers, Scruffy, Pop, our mum, the crew and our friends that have come out to help, and most of all, our dad,” Brock said.
