Whyalla’s Steel City Raceway hosted an action-packed weekend of racing at the weekend, with Saturday’s Riverland Nationals and Sunday’s second round of the Steel City Drags Club Championship providing plenty of entertainment over the two days.
At Saturday’s Riverland Nationals, with all racing completed using a Pro-Tree, the following racers walked away with the spoils:
- Junior Dragster – Winner: Billy Kuhn; Runner-up: Cooper Plummer
- Modified Bike – Winner: John Brooks; Runner-up: Alan Henry
- Bracket 1 (6.3 seconds or slower) – Winner: Rob Bergamim; Runner-Up: Jamie Blackwell
- Bracket 2 (6.3 seconds or quicker) – Winner: Bradley Hicks; Runner-Up: Peter O’Connell
Come Sunday, the following racers lifted trophies at what was round two of the club’s championship:
- Junior Dragster – Winner: Billy Kuhn; Runner-up: Cooper Plummer
- Modified Bike – Winner: David Willis; Runner-up: Bryan Finn
- Street Challenge – Winner: John Maragozidis; Runner-up: James Utting
- Super Street – Winner: Neville Herreen; Runner-up: Peter Gourzis
- Super Sedan – Winner: Corey Pocock; Runner-up: Matthew Cockerill
- Modified – Winner: Bruce McHendrie; Runner-up: Peter O’ Connell
Steel City Drags President, Mark Kuhn, sent his congratulations to all the racers involved.
“It was a great weekend of racing at Steel City Raceway, and we thank all the competitors, our volunteers and supporters for taking part,” Kuhn said.
“Special mention goes to our Modified Bike winner and runner-up from Saturday – John Brooks ran a .000 in the time trials which you just can’t beat, and Alan Henry travelled all the way from Darwin to return home to Whyalla for the first time in 25 years, so it was certainly great having him here at the weekend.
“We had a fantastic two days of racing, and we are already planning for round three of our club championship, with details to be released soon.”
