The Sunraysia Drag Racing Association are revving up to welcome the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship for the very first time to Mildura Sunset Strip.

Preparations for Round 9 of the Sportsman Championship on September 13-14 are well under way promising to be a real treat for competitor and spectator.

“After somewhat of a lull in racing over the last 12 months the club are throwing everything they have at this event to make it perfect,” said Sunraysia Drag Racing Association President Rob McDonald.

Fuchs Lubricants continues to be one of the biggest supporters of Australian motorsport but for the German-based lubricants manufacturer, their involvement all started with one sponsorship property, Kenny Stewart. The relationship with the Modified Dragster pilot continues into its twentieth year in the second half of 2014.

“Our relationship with Kenny is probably one of the longest in drag racing and motorsport full stop for that matter,” explained Fuchs Managing Director Wayne Hoiles.

When you’re racing over 660 feet, there is no room for error. The half-track distance is set up for close tight racing from the hit of the throttle to the finish line; it’s all over in a blink of an eye.

Conditions were cool but the action was hot during qualifying for Round 8 of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship at the 2014 Desert Nationals presented by Supercheap Auto and Shannons Insurance. 

Alice Springs local Andrew Sutton doesn’t race at his home strip as much as you might think. But he can’t wait for the Desert Nationals to roll around this weekend for a rare opportunity to put the hammer down in his 1953 Chevy Corvette at Alice Springs Inland Dragway.

Super Sedan is always one of the toughest brackets to get a win yet alone a win at the Winternationals. There is always an oversubscribed field and teams need to be at the top of their game potentially for six rounds as was the case at the Fuchs Winternationals just over a week ago.

Tony O’Connor turned some heads at the Fuchs Winternationals. Those heads just happened to include ANDRA officials as they awarded him the Best Engineered Award for his Ford XD Fairmont.

As the saying goes, it’s better to be lucky than good but Jess Turner was good and lucky on her way to a first ANDRA Gold Christmas Tree at the Fuchs Winternationals in the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.

Turner upset the likes of teammate Kenny Stewart who experienced engine troubles at the startline in round two and current Champion Craig Baker in round three on a double breakout.

The young Victorian pushed Baker all the way on a 7.921 on a 7.93 dial in from Baker’s 8.391 on an 8.43 meaning Turner won on account of going less under her dial in than Baker.

It was a glorious day in the sun at Willowbank Raceway as final qualifying for Group Two and early eliminations for Group Three got underway in the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship at the Fuchs Winternationals today.

Greg Leahy only needed one qualifying run to occupy top spot in Competition Eliminator going into day three and potentially smash the BB/FCA National record in the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship at the Fuchs Winternationals.
