At the weekend’s South Coast Nationals at South Coast Raceway, reigning Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series Super Stock Australian Champion Adrian Vella not only took out the ANDRA Christmas Tree for SuperComp, but also rewrote both ends of the Super Stock E/GA record.

Following his record-setting performances across the weekend at what was the latest round of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, Vella rewrote the E/GA ET record to 5.416 (from 5.476) and the MPH record to 128.26mph (from 123.59mph).

“It was a good weekend, the weather was good, the track was great, and there was a really fantastic line-up of racers on-track,” Vella said.

“I really enjoy racing at Portland, the atmosphere is always really good there and it has a real family-feel to it that I like. We are looking forward to heading back there in January for the South Coast 660.

“In the final I was expecting a hard race up against Matt Forbes. He is a good racer, and he was the Decoglaze Glass Splashbacks Top Qualifier, so I was expecting it to be a really close run to the finish. As it so happened though, he got a bit out of shape, and we were able to race through for the win and my 11th ANDRA Christmas Tree trophy.

“The last couple of events I have gone to I have been struggling with red lights, so it felt really good to get the win. Hopefully now we can keep it going!

“When it comes to the records, they weren’t something we were trying to rewrite, but you have to do it sometimes to win races. There is certainly more in the car if we need it, it is just about that balancing act,” he concluded, while thanking Plucka’s Race Craft, Outlaw Images, Outlaw Slot Cars, WA Fuels, ProTrans Automatics, JC Race Stuff, Comp Engines, and Ridgeway Motorsports, and ETS Racing Fuels.
