Street Sedan racers are now able to get in on the action at this weekend’s Super Sportsman event, with Willowbank Raceway management opening up the event to the popular bracket.

Racers for the bracket will be able to join the Modified, Super Sedan, Super Gas, Modified Bike, Super Street and Junior Dragster competitors at the Ipswich drag racing facility for two events in one this Saturday November 27.

Street Sedan will run elimination rounds during the day’s first event (without track championship status) and then will run the all-in format alongside the other brackets for the evening’s prize money dash.

Street Sedan racer Richard Fletcher is sure to be there this Saturday.

“I think the Super Sportsman event idea is great, two events in one day, that’s double the chances of getting a good result,” said Fletcher.

“I compare it to the eighth mile series where Super Street was opened to slower cars – the result was the biggest field which equaled tougher racing, and you also get to be part of a larger meeting with a lot more of your friends racing with you.

“Not everyone can afford a full-on race car, and events like this give the budget racer a chance to race against other such competitors, at a higher level than your Test n Tunes or Street Series events.

“I really encourage everyone to come on out for the event, it should be a good fun day, not too serious, and a great chance to catch up with other racers and friends, and prizemoney is always nice!”

The Super Sportsman event, to be held on Saturday November 27 at Queensland’s premier drag racing facility, Willowbank Raceway, is all about giving the racers from these categories the chance to max their opportunities for racing and prize money at a value for money entry cost.

The first event will see each category participate in two qualifying sessions from 9.00am to midday, before racing in the same format as a regular bracket event from midday to 4.30pm with Track Championship Points awarded.

Once 5.00pm ticks over, the race for prizemoney will begin with all-in racing for the Modified, Super Sedan, Super Gas, Street Sedan and Super Street categories while Modified Bike and Junior Dragster will also compete for the cash through a Chicago Shootout format.

Willowbank Raceway is Queensland’s premier drag racing facility and hosts four major drag racing events each year – the two-round New Year Series in January, the Australian Top Fuel Championships in March and the Castrol EDGE Winternationals in June. The Queen’s Birthday event is the largest drag racing event outside of the US and is the season finale for the ANDRA Pro Series calendar.
