4 February 2011

Ladies and Gentlemen

As most of you would now be aware Australian Drag Racing legend Jim Read has resigned from the Board of Directors at Sydney Dragway.

In a meeting of the full Board of Directors on Wednesday (Feb 2nd) Jim tendered his resignation through a heartfelt speech and the Board accepted his resignation effective immediately.

Jim’s vision for Drag Racing has been reflected in the many emails I have received from racers and fans alike who point out that, whilst Jim may be gone the legacy he left of an International Drag Strip in NSW is something that our friends in the Southern States still hope to realise.

Jim has certainly been honoured in the past for his support of Australian Drag Racing and in fact he has been honoured by receiving the Order of Australia, the Queens Medal and he was only the second person outside the USA to be inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2010.

I would also like to say to all the Drag Racing fans that when you sometimes read an article in the press which may be partly unfavourable  toward Drag Racing please try to balance that against all the good that has been and will continue to be achieved in our sport.

On a personal note I would like to publically thank Jim for his passion and unwavering support for Drag Racing no matter what the issue.  I look forward to seeing Jim and his Top Fuel Team, particularly Bruce and Phil, on the start line at the upcoming Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway.

In closing I, along with the full Board of Sydney Dragway, wish Jim all the very best and hope that both he and Denise enjoy their upcoming US trip to the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame Annual Dinner. In the meantime don’t forget the upcoming Pro Series Doorslammer and Pro Stock event on March 18th and 19th which includes Round 5 of the Sydney Dragway Track Championship Series – see you there..
