An impressive cohort of Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series racers have persevered through bitterly cold conditions at the Perth Motorplex during day one of the 48th annual Goldenstates.

Saturday’s day two will undergo a reschedule in light of forecast continuing cold conditions tomorrow, with the main show start now shifted from 5.30pm to 4.00pm – stay tuned to www.motorplex.com.au for the full updated schedule.

Qualifying will continue tomorrow for all Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series competitors, but at the close of today’s action it was Sarah Osborne (Summit Racing Equipment Junior Dragster), Steph Gullotto (Super Street), Paul Nieuwhof (Modified Bike), Jason Lippi (Super Sedan), Paul Ryan (Modified), Chris Roe (Top Sportsman), Alan Mahnkoph (Supercharged Outlaws), Ross Smith (Competition Bike), Jamie Chaisty (Super Stock) and Jayde Robinson (Competition) who were topping the time sheets and the chase for their Decoglaze Glass Splashbacks Top Qualifier medallions in their respective classes heading into day two.

For Jason Lippi, it was a pleasant surprise to be leading the time sheets at the close of today’s running.

“I haven’t raced in a couple of years, we were waiting on parts and then with COVID and everything, it was very hard, but we got the car together in the off-season and want to try and have a good hit out this season and race every meeting we can,” Lippi said.

“It was a good day today, I had a few niggling problems on Wednesday but we got them sorted out and the first pass off the trailer today was nearly its PB, and then the second pass was a PB with the 8.51, so it is definitely running really well at the moment.

“I am feeling good ahead of tomorrow, I feel good in the car and am feeling confident. The more laps you do, the more your confidence grows and it just feels quick at the moment, so hopefully we can do well tomorrow.”

Paul Ryan was another setting a personal best on his way to topping the time sheets for the Modified bracket.

“It has been a good event so far, I ran a PB on my last run with a 7.23, even though I got off it at the end as it was a bit loose in the top end,” Ryan said.

“The car has been going really well, very well today, and I am feeling very good about tomorrow. Hopefully it is a bit warmer than it is today!”
