A five-round Southern Super Gas Series has been scheduled this drag racing season, with four dates confirmed.

The first round is scheduled for Sydney Dragway’s Australian Nationals in November 2012 and concludes with the fifth round at Fuchs South Coast Raceway in Portland on 2 March 2013.

Series spokesman Michael Bibby said last season’s inaugural series got Super Gas racing re-established in Victoria and enticed some race cars out of the shed.

“While entry levels were modest both objectives were achieved and that has given us the encouragement to go ahead with another season,” he said. “A further aim was not to diminish ANDRA championship racing by drawing Super Gas entries away from those events. For Series II we will use the results of the 2012 Nationals in November of this year and the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship event from Portland in January.

“We are pleased to be able to confirm four rounds, with a possible fifth and final date to be announced.”

Eighth mile events will be run using a 6.30 index.

Southern Super Gas Series competitors have two opportunities to earn points at each round – the best average elapsed time during qualifying and regular race results.
