More than 24,000 horsepower will be on show at South Coast Raceway, Portland this Saturday (16 February) when eight Top Doorslammers lead the way for round two of the 2013 Slamfest series.
From 11.00am to late, the Victorian track dubbed ‘the best little drag strip in Oz” will feature not only eight of the country’s fastest ‘doored’ cars but also a packed field of Supercharged Outlaw racers plus six dial your own race categories.
Now entering its fourth year, the Slamfest Series sees Top Doorslammer racers from around the country competing across the eighth-mile distance at Australia’s regional tracks.
“This weekend at Portland Raceway is destined to be one of the best in the 2013 Slamfest Series,” said series co-organiser and 2012 series champion Peter Kapiris.
“Not only is this track one of the best in Victoria and in my opinion, one of the best in the nation behind the three major tracks, this weekend we will be hosting the top three from the national (ANDRA) title chase battling it out for bragging rights.
“The elapsed time and speed records for the eighth mile distance have also been hotly contested of late so that is sure to inspire some exciting racing. Last season John Zappia held both records before six-time ANDRA champ Victor Bray (ET) and I (speed record) snatched them away in late 2012! At the last round in Heathcote I got my hands on the ET record as well so the boys will be gunning for me this week end.
“On top of all of that, you have some great on track entertainment from Matt Mingay and his Stunz INC crew, a burnout display, Supercharged Outlaw racers, six dial your own categories and finish off with a live band – it will be an action packed day from start to finish.”
Kapiris will be joined on-track in the Top Doorslammer field this weekend by Victor and Ben Bray, John Zappia, Russ Pavey, Marcus Chambers plus Sydney hotshot Sean Mifsud and the bracket’s own Jungle Boy Grant O’Rourke.
Gates will open at 9.00am with racing commencing at 11.00am. For more information head to www.southcoastraceway.com.
