Australia's premier eighth mile drag racing series returns to the Coonawarra Dragway on Saturday, 21 January with the running of the second round of the Max Cranes Drag Racing Tri Series, followed by the annual burnout competition.

Now in its thirteenth consecutive season, this is the longest running eighth mile drag racing series in Australia and again the Coonawarra Dragway hosts the second round featuring Modified, Super Sedan, Modified Bike, Super Street and Junior Dragster.

A highlight of the event will be a match race between Graham Shiell in his supercharged V8 Hemi powered Dodge Challenger and Shaun Kennedy in his FC Holden Wagon powered by a supercharged big block Chev. Both of these drivers are fiercely competitive and should be capable of low five second passes for the eighth mile.

Watch as the burnout competitors show no mercy to their machines let alone the sacrificial tyres that evaporate into thick smoke as their engines scream at their peak.

This part of the event has attracted all sorts of competitors and vehicles in the past and has proven to be the ideal place to show their skills in a controlled and safe situation.

Competitors from three states will converge on the Coonawarra strip to contest the Series in their respective eliminators in the hopes of bettering their points tally in the run through to the finals at Whyalla in March.

Qualifying will be on from 10am, with racing from 2pm followed by the burnout competition. Follow the signs off the Riddoch Highway on the Coonawarra straight.
