Colin Griffin is not only the reigning Super Gas Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series Champion, he is also somewhat of a legend at South Coast Raceway.
In the last five Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series events held at the Victorian venue, Griffin has won four of them – the 2019 South Coast 660, 2019 South Coast Nationals, 2020 South Coast 660 and the 2021 South Coast Nationals.
With his latest SRESS victory coming just weeks ago at the South Coast Nationals in December, Griffin heads to the upcoming South Coast 660 (January 22-23) at the same venue with plenty of momentum.
“At the South Coast Nationals the car was running really, really well. I was very happy with it,” Griffin said, while thanking his wife for her support.
“A few of my fellow racers were having trouble getting down the track but my car was going straight down every run, so I was very happy.
“I was especially happy because you have to consider that I had just put a brand-new convertor in the car after breaking it at the last round I had raced before that event, which was the ANDRA Grand Finals at Mildura earlier in the year.
“I really love racing at Portland, it has to be my favourite track, and this latest win there was certainly a great way to start off the title defence!
“Hopefully we can carry that momentum into the next round – you can’t go to the track expecting to win of course, but hopefully if the car runs as well as it did at the South Coast Nationals, we will be in with a chance.
“I won’t be making any changes to the car as it ran so well, and I am really looking forward to the South Coast 660.
“From what I am hearing there will be some more Super Gas guys coming out for that event including some old foes coming back to the track, so I am really looking forward to that,” he grinned.
The Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series will return to Portland across January 22-23, 2022, for its next round. For event information, go to www.southcoastraceway.com.au
