9 December 2010

Saturday 4th of December 2010 saw the Pro Auto 2010 Chev Cobalt SS, powered by a 667ci Steve Schmidt Competition Engine, break the track record once again by running .373 seconds under the National Record (SS/A) with a 6.986 second pass @ 198.67 mph or 319.72 kph.

As this was not a championship Rocket Allstars round the National record could not be reset but watch out for the Rocket Allstars, Westernationals at the Perth Motorplex in March next year where Greg could change the ink on that mark.

A brief history of the Pro Auto Cobalt prior to the new Record setting pass:

Pro Auto proprietor, Greg Carter, debuted the new Chev Cobalt SS drag car at a testing session on Wednesday 27th October 2010. While there were many other cars of great interest, it was the debut of the stunning Pro Auto Cobalt that had jaws scraping the ground. The brand new Jerry Bickel built car, straight from the USA, is absolutely a work of art and showed early potential with an easy as anything 7.38 time slip on its very first shakedown pass.

The Cobalt was then unveiled to the public at the opening meeting of the new Drag Racing season at Perth Motorplex on Friday 29th October….and went straight under the Track Record and the National Record with it’s first qualifying passes, with back to back 7.16’s and 7.14’s. Greg then reset the Track Record on Saturday with a time slip of 7.009 seconds at 197.80 mph (318 kph).

Well done to Greg, his sponsors and all his team:
