The return of ANDRA championship drag racing to Melbourne has been set with a number of dates for next season’s calendar at Calder Park.
There is a spirit of collaboration between both ANDRA and Calder Park and both organisations are looking forward to national competition being back at the iconic venue.
ANDRA CEO Greg Humphreys said being back in Melbourne will produce benefits for racers and sponsors as the series becomes truly national.
“Melbourne has been the missing piece of the puzzle for a long time and to have championship drag racing back in Australia’s second most populous city will be a big win for teams,” he said.
As part of the return to Melbourne, ANDRA will be hosting free technical inspection days to assess vehicles that haven’t yet been registered under ANDRA and a series of ANDRA-sanctioned test and tunes will be run to get drivers and riders licensed.
Calder Park general manager Ian Macarthur said championship drag racing at Calder Park through the nineties delivered some massive events and it was an atmosphere he looked forward to bringing back.
“We’re glad that the two organisations, ANDRA and Calder Park, can work together to deliver a positive result for everyone,” he said.
“In coming months we will have details on technical inspection days and test and tunes at the venue so that everyone will be ready to go when the first event comes around in November.”
Dates will be released soon for the days to get new ANDRA members prepared for the return.
