Friday night sees the much anticipated return of the Beat the Heat Off Street Series at Hidden Valley Drag Strip. Completely revamped in late 2010 this will be the first time the new drag strip and timing system will be used in anger and there are sure to be plenty of records set on the new surface.

To allow competition vehicles to test before the Macmahon Grand Re-Opening on the 13-14 May a test session is being hosted between 3:00 and 6:00pm before the excitement of Off Street racing fires up from 7pm.

“We have invested a considerable amount of time and money into preparing the new drag strip for Friday and we are hoping to see a marked improvement that will benefit both racers and spectators” said HVDRA President, Jay Jukes.

“Beat the Heat NT has come on board for another year and the team is eager to get out there and have a run against anyone with a street registered vehicle. We saw a marked increase in the number of competitors in 2010 and it just shows that motoring enthusiasts are more inclined to race in a safe, legal environment”

Plenty of cash and prizes are up for grabs with the return of the Hogs Breath Mini Eliminator as well as the Perfect Reaction Challenge.

For those that just want to see how fast their car or bike will go over the quarter mile, heads up grudge racing will also be run all night.

“For the first time in 2011 we are also allowing burnouts in the all new Colosseum, Hidden Valley’s dedicated burnout pad” explained Jukes.

“If straight line racing isn’t your thing and you simply want to fry a set of tyres and have some fun then the first six entrants can come and leave their mark from 9pm”

With this being the first opportunity to get onto the strip for 2011, be sure to get in early. Gates open at 2pm, competition test session from 3pm and Off Street racing from 7pm. Spectators only $10 with catering facilities available.
