22 March 2011

After two blistering qualifying passes, recording a 6.282 sec at 219.51 mph and a 6.231 at 211.26 mph, the Nitro Voodoo Team were set for an exciting round of Eliminations on Saturday night.

Nitro Voodoo Crew Chief Roger Bloor was on edge all week leading up tho this critical Round, as it could very well be the turning point of the Championship, with bonus points on offer.

The buzz in the pits Race Day was palpable as a number of the V-Twin Teams were running solid six second passes and were showing excellent consistency.

Mark Drew was on a charge and keen to re-write history on a V-Twin. Mark had run a 6.433 at testing at the Top Fuel Round in January 2011, however, was yet to record the run officially.

With the likes of Mark Drew, Troy McLean and Chris Porter all running hard, the wild card also looming was Jay Upton.

Race Day saw the Voodoo Team up against newcomer Terry Burnett, with Matheson winning with a 6.615 vs Burnett’s 6.895. Unfortunately, the Nitro Voodoo Team suffered major engine damage on the pass and could not get to the semi finals in the one hour turn-around time.

Drew had a bye in the semi, and then faced McLean in the Final. McLean won on a 6.927 versus Drew’s 17.186, taking out the 40th Westernationals Pro- Series Top Bike Round.

All up, despite the disappointing result at the Westernationals, the Nitro Voodoo Team still came away with 117 points, enabling the Team to continue to lead the Top Bike table by 5 points.
