With a strong presence in the U.S. and Europe, Andy McCoy Race Cars is now extending its reach into Australia. The highly respected drag race car manufacturer has received initial approval from the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) for its popular 1970 Plymouth Duster-bodied car to be built for the Top Doorslammer category.

ANDRA takes into consideration things such as safety, structural integrity and faithfulness to the original manufacturer’s design when evaluating a car and approval is needed before any car can be built for competition in Australia.

“We are excited to soon be supplying our cars to racers in Australia,” said Andy McCoy. “We have a lot of racers in Australia interested in our Duster and we expect that to increase now with ANDRA approval. We take great pride in our work and believe that approval is validation of the exacting standards to which we build each and every car that comes from our shop.”

Final ANDRA approval will be granted when the first Duster arrives in Australia and it is certified to meet the specs and photos previously submitted. That is expected to take place this spring.

Andy McCoy Race Cars’ patented Duster made its debut a couple years ago in the U.S. and is being campaigned nationally on the NHRA, IHRA and ADRL circuits. Jason Hamstra, the 2009 National Guard ADRL Pro Extreme Rookie of the Year, started driving a Duster supplied by Andy McCoy late in the 2010 season and made some impressive runs right away, clocking multiple 3.75 second passes at better than 206 mph in less than 10 trips down the strip.
