Congratulations to Junior Dragster competitor, Josh Baker, on his recent recognition as a Local Sporting Champion (LSC) for the electorate of Wills in Melbourne’s Northwestern suburbs. Josh was presented with his award by Mr Kelvin Thomson MP (Member for Wills) on Friday, 18th September.

At the awards ceremony, Mr Thomson spoke of Josh’s achievements already in the sport – including the Victorian Divisional Championship in 2014 and his recent win at the Desert Nationals at Alice Springs.

The Local Sporting Champions program is an Australian Government initiative designed to recognise young people aged 12-18 who are competing, coaching or officiating at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed state, national or international sporting championships or a School Sport Australia state or national championships. Other recipients on the day included Basketballers, Baseballers, Weightlifters, and Junior Footballers.

Josh said “I feel very honoured to receive this award and for Drag Racing to be part of the program.”

Later, Josh caught up with Mr Thomson and spoke more about Australian Drag Racing, how much he enjoyed racing and the friends he’s made along the way.

With his win at Alice Springs, Josh is currently leading the 2015/16 Junior Dragster Championship points and hopes to continue with the success, but most of all hopes to keep having fun with his family and the great people he gets to race with at each event.
