What was to be a pure Super Stock field at this weekend’s Round 3 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at VPW Pro Series 1000 will now amalgamate to Super Comp, not that it fazes former Super Stock champion Jim Ioannidis.

“To be honest I’m not fazed about who is in the other lane, although at the moment there is a few very fast cars that have a big advantage,” says Ioannidis. “Until they touch up their indexes they will be tough to beat.”

As the current Super Stock B/MSA mile per hour record holder at 145.75 mph, Ioannidis feels he has the speed but he has experience issues in other areas.

“I have the horsepower to go fast, my mile per hour shows that but I have struggled to get the car to 60 foot with the new 4-link.

“We have made some suspension changes to the car and hopefully it comes together on the weekend.

“Once the 60 foot times are where it needs to be I’m sure it will run under the record, then we can lean on tune up and see how quick it can really go.”

The Super Comp field will feature a host of Super Stock contenders such as Daniel Camilleri, Steve Norman and Enzo Demizio racing side by side with Super Compact champion Domenic Rigoli and Competition favourites Craig Geddes, Robin Taylor and Wayne Cartledge.

Although that means backing off the race distance to 1000 feet, Ioannidis is just happy to

“I’m not much of a fan of the 660 and 1000 feet distances; personally I think the Group Two stuff should be only run over the full quarter.

“So in saying that I’m comfortable in the car, happy with my driving and have a great crew. Without my crew (Jason and Joe) I couldn’t race and I have a lot of respect for them and their help.

“All in all hopefully it’s a great meeting for the racers, spectators and Racing Onn. The weather should be perfect for both days and we will be looking at going one further this meeting.

“For those who are attending, feel free to come over and say hello.”
