The Mildura speed twins of Darren Morgan and Phil Lamattina met in the final of the fourth round of the ANDRA Pro Series Top Fuel Championship series at the Perth Motorplex with Darren Morgan in the Hungry Jacks/AEG entry grabbing the win.
The self titled ‘BUCKS DOWN’ team showed extreme professionallism making all three qualifiying sessions at 6pm, 8pm and 10pm on Frirday night and then backing this up on Saturday night in eliminations agin being there in the staging lanes at 6pm, 8pm and 10pm providing the Perth crowd with what has been described as the best ever Top Fuel race in Australia with 5 of the 7 elimination races all being side by side 4 seconds!.
Close side by side racing, 120 minute turn arounds were the order of the day and when the dust had settled it was Morgan who was the winner over fellow Mildura resident Phil Lamattina in the Fuchs Lubricants/Youngblood Ink ‘ dragster.
Lamattina did well coming from the last position to defeat the top qualified Andrew Cowin in the first round before winning a sensational side by side 4.80 to 4.80 pass against arch rival Phil Read in the semi finals to set up the final round meeting with Darrant Morgan.
The event attracted a huge crowd over two days with the hot conditionas during the day turning into balmy mid 20 degree Summer nights perfect for Drag Racing, such is the benefit of being less than 2,000 metres from the ocean!
At the completion of Round Four of the ANDRA Pro Series in Top Fuel; Darren Morgan still maintains the championship lead on 372 points, Andrew Cowin is 74 points off the lead followed by Terry Sainty a further 18 points behind.
