Darwin is set to receive one of the largest horsepower shows it has ever seen when Hidden Valley Drag Strip officially reopens on the 13th and 14th of May after a multi-million dollar upgrade.

The two day Grand Re-Opening will feature some of Australia’s fastest Top Doorslammer teams, including the Territory’s own Matt Abel and Scott MacLean.

“This will be the largest Doorslammer contingent to ever travel to the Territory” said HVDRA President Jay Jukes.

“We know a lot of Territory drag racers are eager to go racing and with the action we have in store, this is going to be one of the biggest motor sport events on the Territory calendar.”

Top Doorslammers are the fastest sedans on the planet. With 3500hp, the supercharged V8’s can cover the quarter mile in less than 6 seconds at 400km/hr, nearly twice as fast as a V8 Supercar.

After receiving a $4.5 million face lift, Hidden Valley now features a brand new drag strip, tiered spectator seating, and Australia’s largest LED display boards.

“We are very excited about the upgrades that have taken place at Hidden Valley thanks to the Federal and Territory Governments and we feel it is going to be a venue that spectators and competitors are going to be proud of” said Jukes.

The Grand Re-Opening will be run over two big nights and will include competition drag racing, tyre frying burnouts, live bands, children’s rides plus much more.

Leading up to the Grand Re-Opening, Hidden Valley will also play host to both Beat the Heat Off Street Racing and test sessions scheduled for Friday 22 April and Friday 29 April so spectators and racers can get a feel for the revitalised venue.

During 2011 all Beat the Heat events will feature tyre frying burnouts in the Colosseum, Hidden Valley’s dedicated burnout pad. The first official vehicles set to hit the pad will be on Friday 22 April from 9pm.
