It would appear that the 46th annual Westernationals has the potential to become one of the greatest Top Doorslammer showdowns ever. The numbers being thrown around are definitely close to the 20-car count battling it out for eight positions. Now that’s got to be exciting for the fans.

And speaking of excitement, Sydney racer Frank Mamone is coming over in his Plymouth Cuda to have a crack at the big boys.

Mamone earnt legendary status with his wild mid-track wheel stands in his black Chevy Nova, however his entry into Top Doorslammer has had its dramas.

“We haven’t been down the track since early 2016”, said Mamone. “We had a crash in Sydney when an oil fitting failed. Since then I’ve had work commitments and regrouping, which have kept me busy and away from the track.

“Thankfully the chassis had no damage and the body has been repaired and all fitted up.”

When Mamone had the crash he was running a Liberty transmission over the previous Lenco and looking to improve on his 5.9-second ET. There is no doubt he will need to be on his game if his wish of making the field is to come true.

“It’s a real shame we won’t have the opportunity to test before we head West”, said Mamone, but I’m feeling confident we can get the job done.

“I previously raced the Nova at Perth Motorplex and it’s a fantastic facility. At the end of the day we will do our best to get in the field and to all our fans in WA, please drop in and say hello.

I’d also like to thank my sponsors – Cathis Racing, Five Star Transport, Al’s Race Glides, Snider Racing, Stew and my crew and a special thank you to V Resto for bending over backwards getting the body painted and repairs done in such short notice. And a huge thanks to Jeff from JC Race Stuff for the endless support and advice.”
