Speedweek and ANDRA will start airing the first of four Speedweek episodes of the 2014 Fuchs Winternationals starting this Sunday on SBS2.

The weather was fantastic and provided a perfect setting for some record-breaking performances, and nail biting action Willowbank Raceway.

Speedweek were working their magic over three-days and brought out the big gun (Jib Crane) for the finals on Sunday. Currently the team is hard at work putting the finishing touches to four one-hour programs.

For this block of Winternationals shows, ANDRA and Creative Director Matthew Swaab have worked together to package the one-hour shows with a slight difference to the usual format.

  • EP 1011 will kick things off as the spectacular brackets of Top Fuel and Top Fuel Motorcycle explode onto screens.
  • EP 1012 features the supercharged, methanol bruning Top Alcohol bracket and Australia’s quickest sedans in Top Doorslammer.
  • EP 1013 gets high-tech with the naturally aspirated Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle categories.
  • EP 1014 will be a smorgasbord of funny cars, dragsters, sedans, street vehicles and motorcycles in an all Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship episode.

Swaab said, “I believe this format is a better match for each of the categories and will create entertaining viewing across all 4 x 1 hour programs. We open up with an all nitro show to get everyone in the mood, and then over the following weeks we package Top Alcohol and Top Doorslammer together as well as Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. We then close with Sportsman action in their very own hour show. I think the fans and the television viewers are going to enjoy the change.”

ANDRA CEO Malcolm Bulley said he was interested to see viewers’ reaction to the change as both ANDRA and AVE seek to improve overall coverage.

“For the Winternationals episodes we agreed to experiment in an effort to maximise exposure for teams and give the viewers a sense of the race day show. We are keen to gauge the level of interest from viewers and welcome any feedback in what we expect to be four great episodes of ANDRA Drag Racing.”
