Racing against time.
Maurice Fabietti is racing off the track to make his return to the ANDRA Pro Series this weekend in Sydney following an accident in Tasmania that saw his Holden Trade Club Monaro sustain some unfortunately timed damage.
Fabietti was forced to miss the third round of the championship in Perth and the race is on to make sure he can test the car this Wednesday before qualifying begins on Saturday.
The bizarre incident occurred when Fabietti got caught up in the parachutes of opponent Tony De Felice, which rolled the Monaro over.
“It was largely cosmetic but we took the car straight off the boat from Tasmania and to (chassis builder) Murray Anderson’s to put it on the jig and make sure everything was right,” he said.
“It bent the wing struts very slightly and we’ve had to fit a new rear body clip to it. The rest we have just repaired.”
Fabietti has taken the opportunity to give the Monaro a new look for the two day Sydney event, with fellow team owner Lucky Belleri giving the car some new paint.
“It’s getting sign written (today) and we test on Wednesday; we’ve been having some grief trying to get the car down bad tracks,” he said. “There is so much power and so much drive with the auto that it doesn’t like less traction.”
Fabietti is holding on to eighth in the championship despite missing a round, only one point behind Ben Bray in seventh. The ANDRA Pro Series veteran has made his goal simple – make the eight car race day field.
“Top Doorslammer is tough and qualifying is the number one priority,” he said.
The ANDRA Pro Series featuring Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle and the Rocket Allstars Racing Series is held on March 24 and 25 at Sydney Dragway.
Qualifying (Saturday) and racing (Sunday) both begin from 10am and tickets cost $35, with two day passes available for just $60.
