Round one of the 2011 Queensland Street Car Magazine Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series has opened with 125 racers heading to Queensland’s premier drag racing facility at the weekend.

Taking the wins were Acacia Schwarz (Diamond T Products Junior Dragster), Richie Paterson (Queensland Nameplate Group Modified Bike), Daryl Freeman (John William Car Sales Super Street), Neil Grayson (JP Racing Super Sedan), Andrew Pinkstone (RD Williams Excavator Parts Modified) and Jason Donnelly (FG & Loy Earthmoving Classic).

Series founder John Winterburn said he was happy to see the numbers of entries and spectators steadily on the rise for the series, which was a new concept when introduced in 2010.

“It was great to see 125 racers here at Willowbank Raceway at the weekend, duking it out for opening round honours,” said Winterburn.

“This series is all about the racers being able to battle it out in a relaxed environment across the eighth-mile distance, and it is great to see the entry numbers showing that the racers are appreciating what we are trying to do.

“It was a great day out, a lot of fun for everyone, and now we all look towards round two at Warwick Dragway on the 14th of May for the next hit out!”

The Queensland Street Car Magazine Eighth Mile Series includes three rounds of racing plus a Grand Finale, hosted by each track on a rotational basis year by year.

Following the opening round at Willowbank Raceway, round two will now head to Warwick Dragway on the 14th of May, before round three takes place at Benaraby Dragway on the 9th of July. The Grand Finale will then take place at Ironbark Raceway Roma on the 24th of September 2011.

Special winner and runner-up trophies are available for each bracket at each round, with the Grand Finale to see a special Crystal winner trophy plus $750 prizemoney awarded to the highest point score of each bracket, and a special Crystal runner-up trophy and $250 prize money to go to the second highest point scorer of each bracket.
