ANDRA Super Street racer Chris King is feeling like a king following his crowning at the Warrnambool & District Drag Racing Association Championship awards

A breakthrough season has seen Chris King take out his first Warrnambool and District Drag Racing Association championship.

WADDRA president Tony Frost said King, who won two meetings and was runner-up in another at his home track, was a deserving winner.

“He’s had a good season. He’s been travelling as well. His consistency has paid off all year,” Frost said.

King claimed the title ahead of runner-up Darren Stennett.

WADDRA held its presentation night on Saturday at the Whalers Hotel, with Melbourne-based multiple-time Australian Funny Car champions Peter and Helen Russo, who have been competing in the United States, as guest speakers.

“We had a good presentation. It was a good night and we’re looking forward to the upcoming season, which kicks off in early November,” Frost said.

A longtime supporter of ANDRA Drag Racing,  King was over the moon on winning the Warrnambool & District Drag Racing Association’s Championship.

“I’ve been a member of the club for over 10 years and along with my family, have always enjoyed the friendship, outings, advice, and support.

“Winning the club championship was fantastic. We love the sport and racing in Super Street. Tania, who also competes with a Ford ute, has already indicated that she wants to go faster. But at the moment it’s  affordable, and we’re having fun as a family smiled King.”

King has owned his 357 Cleveland-powered Capri for 8-9 years and enjoys the fact that he can drive the car on the street and race on the strip.

“I’ve made plenty of semi-finals in my racing career as well as winning the 2011/12 South Coast Raceway’s Track Championship, but I’m still chasing the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Championships.

“Winning the WADDRA Club Championships has really capped off a great season.”

In the meantime, two of their five children have already indicated they want to go Junior Dragster so things are about to get a whole busier soon for the King family.
