Since joining the Pro Modified scene in the US, Paul Mouhayet and the Moits Racing Team turbocharged Mustang have been turning heads wherever they go.

The most recent trip to the Street Car Super Nationals X in Las Vegas yielded a boosted full-bodied door-car world record of 273.39 mph in a 5.637 second loss. And Mouhayet says the car will only get better.

“Honestly each and every pass feels strong and the consistency is solid, so it’s difficult to ascertain the slight variances between each run,” he said.

“I knew I’d cut a decent light (on the record run), the car launched and left the line well and the top end felt good so I knew it was a polished run.

“After the run I congratulated Eric on his win, it was then that the 273 figure surfaced – I was ecstatic. It was probably my best ‘loss’ to date!”

While the US fans cheered, the Aussies in the crowd made the most noise waving flags and creating a party like atmosphere.

“Having so many Australian supporters with me was an amazing feeling. It truly made the experience so much more incredible sharing it with my own family and friends.

“Even the Aussies that I didn’t know personally revelled in the atmosphere and became mates – we were like one big family over there! In saying all that, the reception I receive every time I race in the US is phenomenal!

“The trackside and social media support handed to us from the American Drag Racing community is really encouraging. It’s reassuring to know that our efforts as a team are well received here in Australia as well as across the other side of the world.”

A world record in the bag and the promise of big things to come, Mouhayet is keeping his feet on the ground with further testing scheduled in January in ana attempt to uncover the Mustang’s true potential – a scary thought considering their exploits thus far.

“The car is still considered brand new. We’ve yet to tuck two handfuls of runs under our belts. We still have a lot to sort and do.

“I’m well aware of the cars capabilities and will continue to race off shore until the true potential of the car is unveiled. Ultimately I’d love to participate in the PDRA rounds next year but family and personal circumstances won’t allow for it at this stage.

“We will return in January 2015 for two weeks of solid testing in Florida which should pave the way for further data extraction and hopefully more record breaking results!

“I spend a lot of time reflecting on the team’s efforts afterwards – and I can honestly say that I am fortunate to be so well supported by a great crew and team. I’ve affiliated myself with the best in the industry and the team’s results reflect this.”
