17 teams returned to Sydney Dragway for what became the third round of the 2010/2011 ANDRA Pro Series Australian Pro Stock Championship last Saturday night. This followed weather problems at the previous round and afforded an additional shot for some drivers yet to establish a points base.

Melbourne’s Lee Bektash led qualifying with a 7.03 from the Mopar Dodge Stratus at stunning 194.69 miles per hour (312 kph), but some mechanical gremlins that could not be repaired overnight left him out of Saturday’s field. He still took away first round lose points, bonuses for Low ET and Top Speed of the event and 8 qualifying points.

The top eight cars were still covered by just .064 seconds and with 15 cars available Aaron Tremayne opened with a bye run, his 7.13 giving him lane choice over Jason Hedges in the second round.

Dave Newcombe, Scott Porter, Tyronne Tremayne, Michael Ali, John Barbagallo and Bill Kotsias also moved to the second, with Aaron Tremayne, Newcombe, Ali and Barbagallo moving on to the semi finals.

In the first semi final South Australian Michael Ali wasted a 7.19 with redlight, leaving three Queensland teams facing each other. Barbagallo didn’t sit back with a 7.14 and a .004 light from the Escort.

Newcombe slowed to a 7.93 in his semi, with Aaron Tremayne’s 7.10/194 (310mph) taking an easy win.

Tremayne was first in to stage for the final and his 7.10 just topped Barbagallo’s 7.17 for the win.
