There is a buzz in the air this weekend at Sydney Dragway with the opening round of the 2011/2012 ANDRA Pro Series Top Alcohol Championship season.
The upsets of the final round of last year’s season are now just a memory. With another winning season behind him, Wayne Newby is now only looking forward to the next race. Never one to look beyond the race at hand Wayne is pumped and ready to run the Fuchs Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The formula is all in place, the car is running well, the engine rebuilt, and with the help of valued sponsors and their quality products the season is looking good. The car is loaded on the truck, along with the JBS Tool boxes, VP Race Fuel, Redline Oil, and Fabre parts, the crew shirts are pressed plus moral is high after the success of last season.
Round one of qualifying is set for just before 4pm on Friday, with rounds two and three on Saturday and eliminations beginning at midday on Sunday. With ten entries for only an eight car field competition will be fierce from the very first run to make it into the field; no one wants to miss out on racing Sunday. So come down and enjoy the show and give a cheer for the Newby Team.
If you can’t be trackside this weekend then mark your calendar for upcoming rounds of the Top Alcohol championship, there is nothing quite like being there. The smoking burnouts, the heads up racing and the highly charged atmosphere is something you just can’t relate to if you are not there in person.
It is great to see Wayne’s sponsors showing there support in person, with many attending events to cheer him on. However, Wayne is the quintessential quiet achiever and never lets anyone sing his praises; he is also one of the most likable of all Australian drag racers. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Wayne and the team all the best for the coming season, we will cheer quietly after each run and look forward to seeing Wayne celebrating at the end of the event.
