Ten ANDRA Christmas Trees have been hoisted in Mildura this afternoon (Sunday 20 September) as the winners of round three of the 2026/2027 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series – the Mildura City Council Sunset Nationals – celebrated victory in their respective brackets at the Davison Ford Sunset Strip.

A packed field of sportsman racers delivered a full day of non-stop action, with Cooper Plummer (Nitro Voodoo Junior Drag Bike), Todd Wagner (Junior Dragster), Rob Ashman (South Australian Drag Racers Association Super Street), Dean Jamieson (Nitro Voodoo Modified Bike), Jamie Turner (Super Sedan), Kenny Stewart (Gallagher Modified), Joe Khoury (Nitro Voodoo Competition Bike), Leon Davies (Top Sportsman), Brendan Carr (New Gen Business Park Supercharged Outlaws), and Ante Krajina (Three Dimensional Construction Super Gas) taking out the big trophies.

The runner-up honours went to Bailey Paul (Nitro Voodoo Junior Drag Bike), Brock Furlanetto (Junior Dragster), Tony Antonino (South Australian Drag Racers Association Super Street), Dazz Scott (Nitro Voodoo Modified Bike), Les Waight (Super Sedan), Bill Crozier (Gallagher Modified), Cheryl ‘MsVrod’ Beddoes (Nitro Voodoo Competition Bike), Tony Miskelly (Top Sportsman), Shane Baxter (New Gen Business Park Supercharged Outlaws), and Mark Calus (Three Dimensional Construction Super Gas).

It proved a punishing day for Saturday’s Top Qualifiers, with only Dean Jamieson and Kenny Stewart able to convert Saturday’s Nitro Voodoo and New Gen Business Park Top Qualifier Medallions into ANDRA Christmas Trees today.

In New Gen Business Park Supercharged Outlaws, Brendan Carr claimed the ANDRA Christmas Tree trophy with a win over Shane Baxter – a reversal of the pair’s meeting in the 2025 Sunset Nationals final, where Baxter took the win from Carr. Carr opened his account with a round one victory over Lucas Woodburn before eliminating New Gen Business Park Top Qualifier Doina Day in round two to book his place in the decider. Baxter, meanwhile, began with a round one win over Tony Lamanna before progressing through a round two bye.

“It feels unreal to get the win, especially after finishing second last year, so it is pretty special to be able to turn that result around this time,” Carr said.

“The racing over the two days was great. The car performed really well and the whole team worked hard to keep everything running consistently, which was a big part of getting the result today. The Sunset Strip was a great place to race, and the competition was tough all weekend.

“I want to send a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us and helped get the car to the track, especially the crew who put in a huge amount of work behind the scenes. It is a great feeling to finish the weekend on top and bring the Supercharged Outlaws win home.

“Thanks again to ANDRA and everyone involved in putting the event on.”

In Gallagher Modified, New Gen Business Park Top Qualifier Kenny Stewart went all the way to take the win over Bill Crozier, backing up the Sunset Nationals victory he claimed in Mildura 12 months ago. Stewart advanced with a round one win over Danny Wilson and a round two bye, while Crozier earned his place in the final with victories against Ashley Johnson in round one and Neil Dyson in round two.

“We came up here without really expecting a lot, because we have a half new combination in the car and thought we would have a lot more development to go – but it all seemed to come together, swapping from methanol to petrol,” Stewart said.

“The car went down the track all weekend with no problems at all – it was very consistent, and we had an absolute ball all weekend.

“As usual, the crew worked really hard even though it was very hot – Belinda, Victor, and my wife Amanda, who was sick all weekend but never gave up. And we can’t do any of this without our sponsors: Fuchs Lubricants, Pro Shift Automatics, Paul Turner Horsepower, R&J Batteries, Gerry’s Ski Shop and Swarf King. Without those guys, we can’t do it.

“We didn’t really expect to do anything this weekend; we just wanted to come and get the car sorted, so to come away with the win is amazing. It is really good,” he concluded.

In Nitro Voodoo Modified Bike, Dean Jamieson took out the top honours over runner-up Dazz Scott, having also claimed the Nitro Voodoo Top Qualifier Medallion earlier in the weekend – repeating his Top Qualifier and event win double from the 2025 Sunset Nationals. Jamieson progressed to the final with a round one bye followed by wins over Derryn McGregor in round two and Jarrod Healey in round three. Scott booked his place in the decider after defeating Greg Oberti in round one and Shane Kirby in round two, before advancing through a round three bye.

“We had a really good weekend,” Jamieson said.

“The bike was consistent; it was good from qualifying and we felt really good; we knew we were going to be at the pointy end. Then coming into eliminations there was some really tight racing, which was really good.

“Thank you to the Walpoles and the Bartletts for all of their help and support, Casterton Top Shop for their support in getting me here, and to the Sunraysia Drag Racing Association and ANDRA for a great event.”

In Nitro Voodoo Competition Bike, a field of six contested the Chicago Shoot Out format, with Cheryl ‘MsVrod’ Beddoes heading the qualifying order on a 5.73-second pass ahead of eventual event winner, Joe Khoury (5.77). When all was said and done, Beddoes and Khoury were the only two riders to come through all three shoot out rounds unbeaten to set up the final, with Beddoes accounting for Nick Stewart, Rob Church, and David Willis, and Khoury getting the better of Church, Willis, and Stewart. Nat McKay was the best of the rest, with wins over Willis and Church either side of a round two loss to Stewart.

The decider came down to the index, with both riders racing to a 5.98. Beddoes was the quicker of the two on the timing sheet with a 5.922-second pass, but Khoury (5.955) was the better performer, and he also had the much better light, leaving on a 0.133-second reaction to his rival’s 0.349.

“It was a pretty good weekend, the weather was sensational – it was hot, but it wasn’t muggy,” Khoury said.

“It was a good result to follow up Alice Springs, where we finished the same way. There, Cheryl couldn’t run properly because she had broken something on the bike, so this time it was good to win without her having had a mechanical breakdown – she just had a cappuccino on the light!” he laughed.

“In all seriousness it is great to be sharing this side-by-side with Cheryl, and for us both to get there wins apiece today before the final and to qualify first and second this weekend. I will now be near maximum points too, so that feels good,” he concluded, while thanking Twin Tune Performance Centre, VP Racing Fuels Australia, Connection Concepts, Sy’s Harley Davidson in Campbelltown, and Beddoes for their support.

In Nitro Voodoo Junior Drag Bike, Cooper Plummer again had the measure of Bailey Paul in the final, repeating the pair’s 2025 Sunset Nationals decider. Plummer opened with a round one win over Austin Walpole before a round two bye sent him through to the final. Paul – who had claimed the Nitro Voodoo Top Qualifier Medallion on Saturday – progressed with a round one bye and a round two victory against Izzy Woolcock, who had earlier accounted for Aliza Harris in round one.

In Junior Dragster, Todd Wagner took out the ANDRA Christmas Tree with a win over runner-up Brock Furlanetto. Wagner’s path to the final took in victories over Xander Rouhan in round one, Angelina Kondilis in round two and Ava Walker in round three, while Furlanetto accounted for Deklan McGregor in round one, Mason Kuchel in round two and Taylor Horton in round three. Earlier in the day, Top Qualifier Izzy Woolcock – racing in both Junior Dragster and Junior Drag Bike this weekend – was knocked out in round one by Horton.

In South Australian Drag Racers Association Super Street, Rob Ashman went all the way from fourteenth on the qualifying sheet to clinch the win over Tony Antonino. Ashman first took the round one win over 2025 title winner Michael Jennings, before defeating Michael Bridges in round two and Chicka Waight in round three to reach the decider. Antonino earned his place in the final with victories against Brett Tiller in round one, Matthew Smart in round two and Drew Hamilton in round three. Top Qualifier Malcolm Todd bowed out in round two at the hands of Chicka Waight.

In Super Sedan, the biggest field of the weekend at 17 entries went the way of Jamie Turner, who took the win over Les Waight. Turner’s five-round march to the trophy featured victories against Tony Tedesco in round one, Johnny Ienco in round two and Chris Lioulios in round three, before a round four bye. For Les Waight, the road to the final began with a win over Darren Russell in round one, followed by wins against Alicia Lamanna in round two, Joe Cutri in round three and Pat Caruso in round four. Top Qualifier Steve Nusbajtel was eliminated in round two by Lioulios.

In Top Sportsman, Leon Davies was victorious over Tony Miskelly in the final pass. Davies advanced with a round one win against Chris Farrugia before progressing through a round two bye, while Miskelly took the round one win over Glenn Henley and then ended the run of Top Qualifier Daniel Jones in round two.

In Three Dimensional Construction Super Gas, Ante Krajina claimed the ANDRA Christmas Tree with a win over Mark Calus. Krajina raced through three rounds to reach the final, first accounting for Rob Bergamin, then Jason Wilson in round two, before eliminating Top Qualifier Adrian McGrotty in round three. Calus opened with a round one win over Graeme Spencer and followed it with a round two victory against Warren Bull, before a round three bye sent him through to the decider.
