World renowned DJ and passionate racer and team owner Carl Cox is set to make a comeback to drag racing at this Saturday’s ANDRA Drag Racing Masters.

Performing around the globe, Cox has spent time away from the driver’s seat while undergoing a significant transformation, losing over 40 kilograms, a change set to make a real difference behind the wheel of his impressive 1971 Plymouth Cuda Pro Mod.

“I am coming into this event off the back of testing late last year in Florida, which was a really important step for me,” said the British icon, who for the last two decades has based himself in Australia.

“That was about getting seat time again, understanding the car, and rebuilding confidence.

“Recently, I’ve gone through a significant physical change, I’ve lost 44 kilos, and this is my first competition since that transformation.

“So, for me, it is about putting everything together and getting back into competitive racing properly.”

Having said that, Cox knows he won’t be able to take it easy this Saturday.

“The Pro Mod field is strong and experienced. There’s a lot of knowledge across the teams, and every car is capable,” he said.

“It is the sort of category where you can’t ease into it, you need to be switched on from the first pass.

“Sydney Dragway is a track I enjoy racing on. The surface gives you confidence to lean on the car, which is critical in Pro Mod when you’re pushing limits and making fine adjustments run to run.

“My focus is on consistency and rebuilding race rhythm. With the changes I’ve been through physically and the limited competition runs leading into this, it is about learning, adapting, and making each run count.

“If we do that well, the performance will follow.”

If he is able to taste success this weekend, Cox will be rewarded with not only claim a share of the $70k+ prize purse (cash and prizes – including $10k for the Pro Mod Masters winner) but also a prestigious Gold ANDRA Christmas Tree.

“Winning an ANDRA Gold Christmas Tree would mean a great deal to me,” he said.

“It is a symbol of earning your result on the track, and to do that in Pro Mod, against this level of competition, would be incredibly rewarding.”

No matter the result of this Saturday for Cox, it will all be captured and broadcast around the world thanks to a special project the team is undertaking.

“We’ve been documenting this whole return to racing,” explains Cox.

“There’s a mini-series coming out soon on the Carl Cox Motorsport social channels that follows the journey of getting back into the car after such a big physical change. It’s an honest look at what it takes to come back and race at this level.”

“This year is shaping up to be a very busy one, and I’m really looking forward to people coming along for the journey and seeing what’s happening in the racing world when I’m not DJing, including all the incredible people and teams we support. You can follow everything through Carl Cox Motorsport on Facebook and Instagram.”

At this event, Carl Cox Motorsport – which has a global presence supporting racers in a wide variety of disciplines– will also be sponsoring his fellow Pro Mod Masters racer, Joe Gauci.

“Drag racing is always a team effort. I want to thank everyone involved in Carl Cox Motorsport, the crew, partners and supporters who’ve been part of this journey,” Cox said.

“I’m also proud that Carl Cox Motorsport will be sponsoring Joe Gauci this weekend alongside ProFab Racing. Joe’s a very talented driver and it’s great to be able to support him.”

The one-day ANDRA Drag Racing Masters event will feature not only the Pro Mod Masters, but fellow feature brackets, the Doorslammer Masters, Extreme Motorcycle Masters, and Pro Stock, as well as racing for the ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship – with almost 150 racers pursuing more than $70,000 in cash and prizes as well as highly coveted Gold ANDRA Christmas Tree Trophies.
