The ANDRA Board met recently with the ongoing debate about the legality of Pro Stock engines high on the agenda.

While it was acknowledged that the moving of head bolts has been a divisive issue, the rules need to be improved to specify what can and can’t be done.

ANDRA has extensively surveyed and consulted the Pro Stock ANDRA members to gain a clearer understanding of our member’s wishes. This consultation has been conducted through both Pro Stock Associations and directly with individual active member competitors. The recent IHRA rule change has also been considered in these consultations.

Consequently, the overall majority opinion of our members has been considered and acted on by the ANDRA Board.

With exact wording of the rule update to be confirmed, the intent is that head bolts may be moved within the tolerances of the relevant head gasket.

ANDRA will have metal templates engineered in the coming weeks, based on the following gaskets:

Engine Make Fel-Pro Gasket P/N Cometic Gasket P/N
Chevrolet

1144 C5249-040
General Motors LS

26473 L-041 C15517-040
Ford

1135 C5485-040
Chrysler LA

(passenger car engine OEM)

1189
Chrysler P5

(race only engine)

C5800-040

Essentially if the relevant metal gasket template fits over the head bolts, the engine is legal.

“It is important to listen to our members and make the appropriate changes based on those wishes,” said ANDRA CEO Tim McAvaney.

“This has been an extremely complex issue to navigate, with two factions within Pro Stock with very different opinions. At the end of the day, we need to ensure everyone can continue to race and after speaking individually to many drivers, I am confident that we have the majority support in this instance. I acknowledge some will not agree, however individual’s opinion across all members and both Associations agree that this is the best way forward for Pro Stock.”

Further information in relation to the rule wording will be released shortly.
