The Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) Board is pleased to welcome Craig Baker to its ranks, filling a casual vacancy.
Craig was recently elected as the ANDRA Queensland Division Director and fills the Board Director position vacated by Wayne Downes.
The 57-year-old father of two adult boys, and grandfather to two more, currently lives in Palm Cove in Queensland and has been a member of ANDRA and active license holder since the early nineties.
Racing predominantly in Modified Eliminator, Craig has raced at all of the major tracks around Australia along with many of the regional facilities, enjoying plenty of successes along the way – including the 15 gold and silver ANDRA Christmas Trees he proudly displays on the shelf at home, including three representing National Championships (2013, 2017 and 2022).
Aside from his racing career, Craig holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and is CPA qualified. He has worked as Accountant and Finance Manager in the fields of Warehousing and Distribution, Retail, Manufacturing, Airports, and most recently Agriculture.
Craig says that he is looking forward to rolling up his sleeves and getting actively involved in all things ANDRA.
“I am very proud about being considered for a Board Position with ANDRA and see this as a great opportunity to give something meaningful back to the sport that has given me so much over the years,” Craig said.
“It continues to be challenging times for Drag Racing in Australia, but I firmly believe that the sport and ANDRA can return to its former glory – but only with hard work and commitment by all involved. I’m committed to give it my best”.
ANDRA Chair Katie Cassar welcomed Baker to the Board.
“A long-time and respected ANDRA racer, Craig is set to be a valuable member of the ANDRA board,” Cassar said.
“As well as being an experienced racer, his years of experience working in organisations ranging in size from small family businesses right up to others with $200m turnover and over 200 employees will allow him to bring constructive input and a great understanding of the challenges faced financially and economically by our sanctioning body.
“We look forward to working with him as we look to continue to steer Australian drag racing for the benefit of ANDRA members and tracks.”
