Perth Motorplex Modified Bike champion Zoe Nieuwhof (above with Mum) made her first visit to the Northern Territory last weekend at Hidden Valley Drag Strip for the Nitro Up North event.

After qualifying fifth, Nieuwhof went through to the third round of Modified Bike where she unfortunately left too soon and knocked herself out of a possible final round appearance.

This weekend Nieuwhof will be trying to further at the Desert Nationals.

“Darwin was great fun – we were very impressed with the management of the event and crowd enthusiasm, said Nieuwhof.

“The bike loved the conditions running a PB 9.42 first pass of the truck with a 1.26 60 foot. A red light in the quarterfinals finished our event but it was good to pick up some points towards the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series championship, and to see Gordon Crawford win the event.

“He transported the bike for us and was a great support in preparing for the trip. Looking forward to seeing if we can improve upon the 9.42 in the Alice Springs air, keeping the lights green and enjoying the company of the racing community.

“My brother Luke and I, plus Mum and Dad have just checked into Lasseter’s this afternoon after spending a few days doing a family road trip. We visited a few spots in Kakadu but the Mataranka Homestead was probably the highlight of the trip with the lovely swimming spots and great entertainment.

“We are already hoping that we can return again next year. Dad would love to have his bike here so we can both race and to have my partner James (Rowland) here would also be good although, he would probably be busy tuning cars.

“Looking forward to seeing all the fans this weekend at Alice Springs Drag Strip.
