News Sportsman News Summit Sportsman Racers Shine at Goldenstates

For the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, all the racers had two qualifiers each day, giving them plenty of opportunity to improve, especially since Saturday was cooler after Friday’s heat.

Competition Eliminator had 10 entries with current champ Craig Geddes leading the field with a .637 under 7.122 in his B/Dragster. In second place was Al McClure in his fire breathing BB/Altered. No surprise to see these two get through to the finals, and no surprise to see Geddes take the win light with a 0.512 under 7.248 ET against a 0.072 under 6.288 from the bright green Altered!

Tom Dimitropoulos led Super Stock, with a 0.549 under 9.030in his A/MS Camaro. Australian Nationals winner Jamie Chaisty qualified second but was knocked out in Round 2.

Dimitropoulos run to the finals ended in the semis after he went red at the tree, handing Errol Quartermaine a seat in the finals. Meeting him there was the Ford Probe of Allen Puglia. The BA Falcon went 0.001 on the tree and used that to stay ahead of Puglia, taking the win with a 7.698 on a 7.96 DD/Gas index.

Competition Bike featured seven riders with Phill Paton going 0.517 under his 8.90 DD/CBI index with an 8.382. In the final it was Chris Chipchase getting the win light over Ryan Learmonth

outlaws

In Supercharged Outlaws it was Darren White who top qualified with a 6.864 ET in his Dart. However by the time the finals had come around the Dodge Viper of Chris Went picked up his trophy when opponent Greg James took out some timing blocks with his Lamborghini.

The Ford Probe of Colin Davis led Top Sportsman qualifying with a 7.551, ahead of a 7.60 ET from Paul Russo’s popular Chev. Russo was defeated in the first round while Davis went red with a -0.041 reaction in Rd 2. The final saw “Miss Boss” Amanda Martin take the win in her Pontiac, over Brett Illich.

Modified Eliminator was led by the dragster of Erin Healy with a 7.53 ET in qualifying and after two rounds of competition, Healy took on the way cool front-engined digger of Paul Ryan in the finals. On the green Ryan was away first and looked to have the win, however he broke-out handing Healy the trophy.

Johnny Brecich top qualifier in Super Sedan with an 8.58 ET in his Chev Camaro, however he was defeated in round three by the Monte Carlo SS of Nick Panagopoulos. In the finals Kyle Higgins went 0.004 at the tree and took the win over Panagopoulos.

Warhead Racing’s Troy Thompson top qualified No.1 in Modified Bike with an 8.38 ET on his AA/MB Suzuki. It was Bryan Finn who ended Thompson’s weekend in Rd 3 before defeating the Kawasaki of Ross Townson in the final.

Discovery Park’s Woodman Point Super Street bracket was led by Steph Gullotto with a 10.353. After five rounds of racing, the Beat The Heat entry of Chris De Bruin defeated the Holden Torana driven by Eddie Wroe.

In Summit Racing Equipment Junior Dragster bracket Jack Wasley top qualified with an 8.002 ET. In the final it was Bailey McClure who took the win over Samuel Perri.
