Race day at the MacTrack Westernationals beckons with day one of what is the penultimate round of the 2017/2018 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series now complete at the Perth Motorplex.

By the close of proceedings today, Trent Morrison (Competition), Jim Ioannidis (Super Stock), Phill Paton (Competition Bike) and Adam Murrihy (Supercharged Outlaws) had each laid claim to Top Qualifier’s Medallions – sponsored by The Tile Co-The Shower People, KC Tools and Summit Racing.

While the race day line-ups in these brackets are now set, the DENSO Super Street, Modified Bike, Super Sedan, Modified and Top Sportsman competitors will have one more chance to take top qualifying glory tomorrow, with a final qualifying session scheduled for these classes from 1.00pm, ahead of the start of racing. Championship Update cover

The 2017/2018 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series is speeding towards its conclusion with only two rounds left to run – the MacTrack Westernationals (Perth Motorplex, March 3-4) and the Grand Final (Adelaide International Raceway, March 23-24).

Unsurprisingly, the battles for the prestigious ANDRA Xmas trees have been fierce across the year, with no signs of that abating as the championships come down to the wire.

With the penultimate round being held this weekend, we caught up with some of the racers ‘at the pointy end’ to get their thoughts on the season that has been and the battles ahead.

West Australia’s Todd Stacy will be looking to overcome recent tyre shake issues when he competes in this weekend’s MacTrack Westernationals at his home track, the Perth Motorplex.

The event, which includes round eight of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, will be held across Saturday March 3 and Sunday March 4.

The 31-year-old Fabricator from Forrestfield said that aside from the usual goals for a race weekend, overcoming recent challenges with the car was paramount.

Defending Super Sedan champion George Tipouikidis and his Holden HK Monaro will be well and truly on a mission at the upcoming MacTrack Westernationals at the Perth Motorplex (March 3 and 4).

The racer from Virginia in South Australia heads to the penultimate round of the 2017/2018 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series on 200 points and equal fourth on the ladder – 100 points shy of the points cap.
