Following a big day of qualifying for a 170+ field at South Coast Raceway today, tomorrow’s eliminations field is now set for what is round seven of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

After some tough qualifying battles, day one of the South Coast 660 ultimately saw the following racers take out the Top Qualifier Medallions - sponsored by The Tile Co-The Shower People, KC Tools and Summit Racing: Graeme Spencer (Super Gas), Samuel Perri (Summit Racing Equipment Junior Dragster), Bill Farrugia (Denso Super Street), Danny Rickard (Modified Bike), Daryl Dando (Super Sedan), Simon Barlow (Modified), Darren Nichele (Top Sportsman), Justin Russell (Supercharged Outlaws) and Jim Ioannidis (SuperComp). Ioannidis was one of four racers in SuperComp to run under the current national eighth mile record for the bracket.

The action from the Portland venue will continue tomorrow (Sunday January 21) – racers set to be on-track from 10.00am local time, while the Finals are scheduled to begin from 2.00pm. For further event information, please visit

Matt Czerny and his Mullins Dragster are currently leading the way in the Modified ranks of the 2017/2018 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, which will enjoy its seventh round this weekend at Portland’s South Coast Raceway (January 20/21).

At the South Coast 660 event, Czerny and his crew will be looking for their maiden Modified event win in what is their first season in the bracket, with their spot on the top of the points tally coming by virtue of the consistency they have enjoyed so far.

He broke through for his first-ever ANDRA Christmas Tree at Mildura earlier this season, and since then Melbourne-based Supercharged Outlaws racer Tim Stewart hasn’t looked back.

In the last three events he has raced – starting with Mildura – Stewart has been to the finals every time, securing the event win two out of those three times. What makes this even more impressive is the fact that Stewart’s ‘THE STANG’ ‘66 Fast back Funny Car is new for him and his crew this season.

Now, the 56-year-old Director of Fire Fighting Systems is looking ahead to try and make it four from four finals at this weekend’s South Coast 660 at South Coast Raceway (January 20/21) – round seven of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

Pro Stock competitor Chris Soldatos will compete at South Coast Raceway’s South Coast 660 next weekend in close friend Craig Geddes’ Cavalier.

The January 20/21 event marks round seven of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

With Geddes at the wheel, the 2004 Cavalier - a new car for Geddes - took out the Super Stock honours at the last round of the Series: the Rowe Memorial at Calder Park.

Now, Soldatos will take over the driving duties while Geddes looks to run his dragster for the remainder of the season.
